Henderson UK Absolute Return

Co-managed by Luke Newman and Ben Wallace, both of whom joined Henderson Global Investors in 2011 following its acquisition of Gartmore, this fund has been a member of the 100 Club for three years running.

The Henderson Oeic was launched in 2009 as a replication of the asset manager’s Cayman version, which has been going since 2004.

The management team aims to provide investors with positive returns over the long term, regardless of the direction the market is taking.

Mr Newman previously told Investment Adviser: “Our aims do not change in a downward or volatile market.”

He added: “We have our core book, which consists of our longer-term investment views, from both a long and short trading perspective. Then there is our tactical trading book, which helps us to make more money during periods of volatility.”

Over five years to October 21, the fund delivered a respectable 34.1 per cent, ahead of the average 14.8 per cent generated by the Investment Association Targeted Absolute Return sector.
