Aberdeen’s Chou Chong to exit after 21 years

Aberdeen Asset Management’s Asian equity investment director Chou Chong is to depart after more than two decades at the company.

Mr Chong, who joined Aberdeen in 1994, has worked in the company’s Singapore office since 2008 but will leave at the end of this year to take time out of the industry.

He formed part of the team which runs a wide range of Asia Pacific open- and closed-ended equity mandates for Aberdeen.

Prior to working in Singapore, Mr Chong spent six years in London, initially as head of UK equities. There he helped spark a revival in the division’s fortunes as well as introducing the team-based management structures already prevalent in the Asian business.

Flavia Cheong will continue to lead Aberdeen’s Asian equities team following Mr Chong’s departure.

An Aberdeen spokesman said in a statement: “While we are saddened by Chou’s departure after a long and successful career with Aberdeen, we are confident in our highly-skilled investment team (40-strong) which remains an industry leader in Asian equity investment experience and is led by Flavia Cheong.”
