Countrywide appoints new chairman

Countrywide’s board has announced Grenville Turner will retire as non-executive chairman at the annual general meeting on 27 April, with Peter Long taking over.

Mr Long will also become a non-executive director of the company with immediate effect.

Mr Long is currently chairman of Royal Mail and having ceased to be joint chief executive of tourism group TUI from 9 February, is still a member of their supervisory board.

Prior to this, Mr Long was formerly senior independent non-executive director of RAC, Rentokil Initial and Debenhams.

Mr Turner became Countrywide’s chief executive in 2007 and then was promoted to become chairman in 2014.

Chief executive Alison Platt thanked Mr Turner for his dedication and “significant commitment” to the development of Countrywide during his tenure.

“I am pleased that Peter has accepted the role of chairman and would like to welcome him to Countrywide,” she added.

Mr Long added that the group has a clear focus on its customers as it executes its strategy and generates long-term sustainable shareholder value.

The appointment is still subject to Financial Conduct Authority approval.
