Fidelity hires Henderson multi-asset head McQuaker

Fidelity has poached Henderson’s Bill McQuaker, who will join the group as a multi asset portfolio manager later this year.

Mr McQuaker was co-head of multi asset at Henderson and will now be part of Fidelity’s 26-strong team and will help the firm develop its UK retail range.

The manager had been at Henderson since 2005, initially joining as head of multi-manager. His responsibilities will now be assumed by Paul O’Connor, who will become sole head of the multi-asset team.

James Bateman, head of portfolio management at Fidelity Solutions, said: “The arrival of someone of Bill’s calibre is...a clear signal of our ambitions to continue to develop our multi asset capabilities.

“Bill is an extremely experienced multi-asset investor and his rigorous and disciplined investment approach is a perfect fit for our existing Fidelity Solutions team.”

Henderson Diversified Growth, the largest of the three funds on which Mr McQuaker was the named manager, according to FE, has returned 19.2 per cent over the past five years, figures from the data provider show. The portfolio sits in the Unclassified sector.

Fidelity has 16 multi-asset funds in the Investment Association sectors, run by a team which includes Eugene Philalithis, Kevin O’Nolan and Nick Peters. Mr Peters previously worked with Mr McQuaker at Henderson between 2005 and 2009.

The firm did suffer the departure of asset allocation head Trevor Greetham last January, however. Mr Greetham joined Royal London Asset Management. Fidelity said at the time it would not seek a replacement for the manager, who had been at the group since 2006.
