Do not compare adviser schemes to tax dodges

In response to Emma Hughes’ column on offshore investing (FTAdviser, 15 April), let us be quite clear that there is a world of difference between allocating money to a range of entirely legitimate investments – both on and offshore – as is regularly recommended by the vast majority of straight financial advisers, and the types of contrived or, in some way or other, phoney, tax-dodging schemes over which Sven Göran-Eriksson and such like are now being brought to book.

Without this distinction, the impression could be given that all financial advisers are routinely aiding and abetting everyone and anyone to help them avoid paying their rightful dues.
