Dobie joins Alliance Trust board

Alliance Trust has appointed Clare Dobie, a former head of marketing at Gam, as a non-executive director of the company.

She will join the board with immediate effect, according to a statement from the company.

Earlier in the year, Alliance Trust chairman Lord Smith of Kelvin acknowledged the “lack of gender diversity on the current board” following several high profile departures and said he was “determined to address” the issue.

Ms Dobie was group head of marketing at Gam from 2001 to 2005, and prior to that held a number of roles at Barclays Global Investors. She also ran her own marketing consultancy for 10 years until 2015.

She spent 15 years as a financial journalist, with her last role as city editor at The Independent.

Lord Smith of Kelvin said: “I am delighted that Clare is joining the board as she brings extensive knowledge of marketing and client service within asset management companies. Her skills and expertise in the investment trust sector and her early background in financial journalism provide an ideal complement to an already strong board.”

Ms Dobie is currently a non-executive director of Aberdeen New Thai Investment Trust, F&C Capital and Income Investment Trust and Schroder UK Mid Cap fund.
