Former Barclays executive launches family office

Former Barclays executive Tom Kalaris has launched a London-based private family office providing advice and investment management.

Mr Kalaris came up with Saranac Partners more than three years after leaving the bank in a boardroom reshuffle.

Saranac has already agreed a partnership with Aberdeen Asset Management and Iress, the latter of which will provide the company’s platform.

Andrew Catterall, head of operations and technology at Saranac Partners, said the aim is to utilise technology to support the wealth management needs of each client.

“The experience of the Iress team has instilled confidence in us that they will continue to respond to our changing needs by delivering scalable and leading edge technology as Saranac continues to grow, supporting our broader business strategy.”

Mr Kalaris once ran Barclays’ wealth management business and along with his colleagues Rich Ricci, the head of Barclay’s investment bank, Jerry del Missier, the co-chief executive of investment banking, and Bob Diamond, the bank’s former chief executive, he became known as one of the “four musketeers”.

His new venture offers bespoke wealth management services for ultra-high net worth clients.

It will use the technology to provide investment management, financing, fiduciary and corporate finance services.

Iress has provided an integrated platform to support the client experience for Saranac’s client base, from getting clients on board with the system, to client reporting and customer relationship management, through to portfolio management and integrated trading functions.

Its key features include a single front office desktop tool for client and investment management, alongside a digital client portal to support online access for clients.
