L&G’s protection training sees record adviser uptake

A record 5,315 advisers attended Legal & General protection training seminars during the first half of 2016, an 86 per cent increase on the first half of last year and more than the whole of 2015.

The provider’s specialist protection team delivered the equivalent of more than 5,500 continuous personal development (CPD) hours, which were presented as seminars, workshops, webinars and training sessions; including the Personal Financial Society quarterly events.

In January, L&G’s figures showed 4,913 advisers got involved during 2015, an increase of 40 per cent from 2014. It also delivered 7,800 CPD hours through a combination of seminars, workshops, webinars and training sessions, up by 20 per cent from 2014.

Over a third of people who attended the SimplyBiz Protection Connection Roadshows requested to attend a workshop, whilst 97 people requested further information on how they could increase their sales of business protection.

Richard Kateley, head of intermediary development at Legal & General, said he has seen a huge rise in demand for Chartered Insurance Institute accredited training and this “buzz of activity” has resulted in growing interest from advisers for both business protection and Relevant Life cover.

“The second half of this year promises to be just as successful as the first, with numerous full-day workshops being booked in advance for the upcoming months,” he explained.

“We are pleased with the positive feedback with have received from attendees, and these results highlight Legal & General’s commitment to supporting advisers and strengthening the potential for their small business clients.”

In June, the Society of Mortgage Professionals stated it was confident advisers can live up to the regulator’s expectations of giving clients a more holistic range of financial planning options, through a combination of qualifications and on-going CPD.
