I am writing with regards to Harry Katz’s letter (FA, 11 August) in reply to Neil Liversidge’s letter. Economic judgement can only be reached over a somewhat longer period than just a few days; it is actually years.

It always amazes me that so-called ‘intelligent’ people seem to look down on the under-educated (who do not speak a foreign language) – the so-called ignorant and misinformed. These are the backbone of society. They too have their trials, tribulations, ambitions and their stories. They have also been blessed with an attribute that is a natural talent called ‘common sense’, and that means all of us are equal.

They can see through the undemocratic, unelected EU bureaucracy as Steve Hilton, David Cameron’s ex-policy guru said in his recent book More Human that the European Parliament and Commission; all we really wanted to do wasto trade with them. It was called “The Common market”.

So cheer up, Mr Katz. You will get used to not having your EU comfort blanket around you so that you can get out into the wide world that is full of opportunities, and create wealth for us all.
