Friends Provident hires Phipps

Friends Provident has appointed Robin Phipps as an independent director, subject to regulatory approval by the Financial Services Authority

Phipps is currently a non-executive director of G.E. Money UK and Partnership Assurance as well as being an adviser to the financial services practice of Ernst & Young.

Between 1982 and 2007 Phipps held various senior roles at Legal & General.

From 1996 to 2007 he was an executive director of Legal & General group plc. When he retired in 2007 he was group director UK operations.

Commenting, Sir Adrian Montague, chairman of Friends Provident said: "I am delighted to welcome Robin to the Board. He brings many years of financial services experience to Friends Provident.

"He has a proven track record in driving strategic change in challenging market conditions. His experience will bring added strength to the Board of Friends Provident and we very much look forward to working with him."

Earlier today, Friends’ announced that it is to retain its Lombard business which it previously intended to sell and is to distribute its F&C stake to shareholders. See article.
