The new product follows on from 5 for Life, which launched in September 2006 and was aimed at UK customers nearing or at retirement and offers investors control of their fund and certainty of income for the rest of their life.

According to market speculation, the new product will be called Income for Life, however, a spokesman for Aegon UK was unable to confirm the product name or details.

"We are looking into launching a product that follows on from 5 for Life and looking at a pensionable version."

The new product is set for launch in mid-May.
