Opinion split on Mandelson

The appointment of Peter Mandelson to the cabinet post of business secretary has split opinion among many despite been welcomed by businesses.

Mr Mandelson, who was the EU trade commissioner, replaces current business secretary John Hutton, who will be moved to the post of defence secretary.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown's reshuffle is set to bring in a number of new 'business ambassadors' to forge better links between government and business. Sir John Bond, chairman of Vodafone, is rumoured to be a front runner for this position.
