More than 1m days lost to strikes

More than 1m working days were lost last year due to strike action, the Office of National Statistics has confirmed.

The ONS data showed an increase in disruption - up 250,000 days in 2006 Ð and unions are warning that further stoppages are likely in the public sector this year.

Low pay, high food and petrol prices will spark the next bout of strikes, the TUC warned.
