Dominic Rossi has been hired as chief investment officer for Gartmore and will oversee the entire investment division including multi-manager.

Mr Rossi joins from Threadneedle Asset Management where he was head of equities.

The move comes as part of a shake-up at Gartmore that has seen the departure of Bambos Hambi as head of multi-manager.

Mr Rossi, who starts later in the year, will report to Jeff Meyer, Gartmore's president and chief executive officer and be a member of the company's executive committee. He will also be appointed to the board of Gartmore subject to regulatory approval.

Mr Meyer said: "We have been fortunate to find someone with the experience and management style that will significantly impact our business. Mr Rossi will be a key contributor to our long-term business strategy which is based on delivering outstanding investment performance, continually enhancing our distribution and client service capabilities and seeking new investment teams and products."

Gartmore announced earlier this month that it is merging two of its funds following a strategic review. The move, subject to approval, will see the Gartmore MultiManager UK High Alpha and the Gartmore MultiManager Global High Alpha funds merge. The newly-merged fund would be renamed the Gartmore MultiManager Absolute Return fund.

Meanwhile Bettina Hoenigmann has been appointed head of business development for Gartmore in Germany. She joined on 1 August and reports to Kerstin Behnke, managing director of Gartmore Germany.
