Politicians will take part in a series of roundtables focusing on the future of financial advice, following the alliance between Aegon UK and think tank Social Market Foundation.
The debate will centre on the theme of Talking Money: Is Financial Advice For All A Realisable Vision?, following the recent publication of Aegon's 18-month consumer research project aimed at discovering what people really want from a financial adviser.
The breakfast discussion events will take place at each of the main political party conferences in September and October.
The research identified a number of core consumer needs, including a desire to better understand financial products; a separation between advice that helps them understand products and advice that helps them buy; and what the consumer gains for advice such as long term planning and motivation.
Francis McGee, UK head of corporate affairs for Aegon UK, said: "As economic conditions bring people's personal finances sharply into focus, it has never been more important for people to be able to access financial advice. Widening access to advice and ensuring that people have the right information to make better financial decisions requires a concerted effort from industry, government and regulators.
"By taking this message to the party conferences, we can engage with a broad political audience and and move this debate forward. We are delighted that senior political figures have agreed to participate in these debates and we welcome their engagement."
Also following its research, Aegon UK called for the FSA to take account of the consumer findings as the pending retail distribution review draws nearer.
