Workers 'support' technology-assisted flexible working

A survey has found that employees would continue working after retirement if offered flexible working practices supported by technology

Flexible working with the provision of technology could help plug the UK skills gap with three-quarters of employees saying they would work on after retirement if given such options, according to a survey.

Commissioned by telecommunications company Avaya, the survey found that less than one fifth of businesses have made provisions to enable their whole workforce to work flexibly, despite 95 per cent of the workforce desiring such a provision.

Martyn Lambert, vice president of marketing for Avaya, said: "The digital divide used to be constructed of those who had access to technology and those who did not. Now it consists of those companies that have unlocked the ability to truly gain workforce productivity and efficiency while retaining their best workers and those who are putting their businesses at risk because they don't have the technology to support what their workers are asking for."
