Aifa releases green policy guide

The Association of Independent Financial Advisers has urged intermediary firms to improve their green credentials by following its green office policy guide.

The guide was published in response to a recent survey carried out by Aifa, which revealed more than two thirds, or 68 per cent, of advisers still have not implemented any kind of green policy for their business.

More than 40 per cent of advisory firms claimed this was because they did not have enough information in place to do so.

As a result, Aifa highlighted a number of solutions firms can put into practice to reduce the negative impact their business has on the environment.

This includes reviewing office equipment for environmental efficiency, reducing paper usage and requesting staff use less carbon-heavy travel to work, such as public transport.

Chris Cummings, director general of Aifa, said: "Everybody has a corporate and social responsibility to help lower their carbon footprint. Just because we are not a corporate giant, does not mean we don't have an environmental impact.

"A green policy can help remind staff they have a duty to the environment, encouraging them to make conscious decisions that really do make a difference."
