No smoke without ire

Tobacco has long been on the list of things to avoid for many an ethical fund, but Diary has learned of a new way to make money from the evil weed that will satisfy those with a conscience.

It seems our public spaces are now policed by council officials pouncing on any unwary addict careless enough to stub out their cigarette on the floor. How did this come to Diary’s knowledge? Our very own deputy editor was banged to rights outside a riverside pub the other day – and far from following her colleagues’ loud advice to make a flight to quality (or even freedom), she humbly coughed up the £75 fine. What a choker.
