Atlantis hires Wat for Singapore

Atlantis Investment Management has hired a new manager to set up a Singapore office and launch a new south-east Asia fund before the end of the year.

Joseph Wat, who joins from Deutsche Asset Management with 16 years' experience in Asia ex Japan, will set up a vehicle to invest in the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. He will answer to Tony Jordan, co-chairman of Atlantis.

Participating nations in Asean are currently Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Mr Wat ran a GT Asean fund for Invesco until 2004, when he joined Deutsche. His former roles were at Schroder Securities, DBS Bank and Arthur Andersen. He holds a bachelor's degree in accountancy from the University of Singapore.

Mr Jordan said: “As an Asian equity specialist, we are dedicated to providing investors a range of funds that invest in the region and believe an Asean fund will be an exciting addition to our range.”

Atlantis currently has 11 Asian equity funds. Its regional portfolios have until now focused on China, Japan, Korea and India.
