First State Investments has raised annual management charges on its Global Emerging Markets fund from 1.5 to 1.75 per cent, according to sources close to the situation.

The soft-closed fund, which is top-quartile over three years, has a capacity constraint due to its holding in small and mid caps.

The large-cap Global Emerging Markets Leaders strategy has no such constraints in place as yet.

The strong rises in emerging markets and massive inflows into the sector may give outperforming funds greater pricing power after staging a strong recovery from the financial crisis.

A spokeswoman for the company said there are no current plans to soft close the Global Emerging Markets Leaders fund.
