Whether it was stupidity or madness that caused 63-year old Nottingham resident Leo Casey to burn £17,000 of his own cash, we will never know.

The man torched the pile after an argument with his partner, a court heard. Police called to the incident said they observed the man ignite a bundle of £20 notes and then throw it out of a window. Officers then noticed smoke coming from upstairs where Casey was setting fire to a further pile of money in the bathroom. To make matters worse for Mr Casey, he was awarded 18 months community service for arson.
