L&G's Thompson resigns from mortgage director role

Legal & General has confirmed Ben Thompson has resigned from his position as mortgages director.

Thompson will take up a senior post with insurance intermediary Towergate, following a six month period of gardening leave.

Stephen Smith, director of housing for L&G, said: "We have been delighted with the work Ben has done for us over the last year and will be sad to see him go but we wish him well for the future.

"We will now be starting the process of looking for a replacement for Ben into what is probably one of the best jobs in the mortgage industry, running the Legal & General mortgage club and managing its exceptional team."

Thompson was appointed to the positon of mortgages director in August 2007, with responsiblity for managing Legal & General's mortgage club.

He has worked in the financial services industry for more than 20 years.
