Howard Brown, the singing star of the Halifax television advertisements, can breathe a sigh of relief after being offered free redundancy cover by British Insurance.

Amid speculation about the future of thousands of HBoS employees if the Lloyds TSB takeover of HBoS goes through, British Insurance offered the free protection policy to Mr Brown (Howard - not Gordon) to help protect him against any possible change to his employment status.
