Derbyshire Booth Financial Management Ltd, Lancashire, www.derbyshirebooth.com

Plus points... Welcoming and not intimidating, the blue colour scheme and the large text makes the home page easy on the eyes.

There is a large IFA Promotion symbol on the front page. The entire website is easy to navigate as it is simple, concise and brief. It takes no time at all to navigate the entire website. The brevity of the information make the website far from being overwhelming.

The firm is clearly quite small, they mention how it is a family-run business and their website has a personalised approach. On the home page, the experience and qualifications of Derbyshire Booth's managing director is given. From the website you can tell the firm specialises more in pensions and investments than mortgages. Mortgages are mentioned in a separate section for 'other services' the IFA offers. The website explains clients can pay for mortgage advice either by fee or commission. The website is ideal in its simplicity for someone just browsing for some advice. There are decent contact details for the firm and it appears top of the list when searched for using Google, Yahoo and Ask.

Could do better... The website is charming in its simplicity and the information given is to the point. However, it could elaborate a little bit more on the services on offer and explain a bit more about the individual IFAs and their qualifications. An additional bonus would be if they added some client testimonials.

5 Point Financial Planning Ltd, Northamptonshire, www.5pointdirect.co.uk

Plus points... A professional design, this website is neatly laid out and easy to navigate. The welcome page greets the customer, introduces the firm and explains the benefits of choosing independent financial advice.

The areas the intermediaries give advice on are listed down the right hand side of the page and includes mortgages. The mortgage section is clearly laid out into different subsections including a concise explanation of mortgages, general guidance, a calculator and a separate section detailing the different repayment options. It also states how the advisers expect to be paid. Appropriate warnings regarding the potential for repossession if mortgage repayments are not met are listed.

Decent contact details are constantly on screen and there is a location map and directions. There is an online enquiry form and also a link to a useful jargon buster. The website appears top when searched for using Google and Yahoo.

Could do better... The website is a little dull and not very inviting to someone just browsing. The firm offers no information whatsoever as to the qualifications or experience of its intermediaries and there are no client testimonials.
