Sharmila Nebhrajani has been appointed to non-executive director of the Pension Protection Fund and will also have a seat in the corporation’s audit committee.

Ms Nebhrajani is currently chief executive of the Association of Medical Research Charities which represents the 125 medical research charities in the UK.

Lady Barbara Judge, chairman of the PPF, said: “Ms. Nebhrajani joins us at an important time in our development. We have £12bn of assets under management, we are directly protecting more than 140,000 members and we are expanding our operations by bringing member administration in-house by 2014.

Ms Nebhrajani said: “I am very much looking forward to playing an integral role on the PPF board to help the organisation continue to deliver real security in retirement for hundreds of thousands of its members, now and in the future.”
