The action plan aims to encourage health and fitness and maximise the benefits on offer with private medical insurance schemes.

In the guide, Jelf calls on employers to encompasses fitness in their everyday life, such as competing in triathlons.

The guide said: “Existing PMI schemes may offer extra health and wellbeing benefits such as health screening, and now is a time to investigate these and encourage staff take-up.

“Reminding staff to drink water and eat fruit actually works. Put up posters in staff canteens, toilets, break-out areas, and desk drop messages regularly to keep healthy living front of mind.”

It also said it was important to encourage staff to seek advice, adding: “Speak to your healthcare intermediary for their advice and experience and learn from what others in your sector have done.
