LV= is set to launch a three-step training programme for advisers considering entering the equity release market.

The insurer explained that the free sessions would run over a three-month period, with each stage moving the adviser towards operating in the market.

• Step one involves face-to-face sessions designed to give advisers an insight into equity release products and client suitability.

• The second stage helps guide advisers through the ER1 qualification, offering technical support and consists of five revision webinars held weekly, covering key areas of the syllabus.

• The final stage guides advisers through the practicalities of setting up in the equity release market.

The sessions for step one of the programme are taking place at LV= offices in the following locations:

5 March – Manchester

6 March – Hertfordshire

13 March – Cardiff

14 March – London

IFA verdict

Anthony Collins, mortgage specialist for Buckinghamshire-based Salisbury Financial Services, said: “This sounds like an excellent idea to me. I actually went on a very similar thing LV= did in Swindon a year and a half ago, which was excellent and well worth going on. This is the right sort of event for advisers to attend who are interested in equity release, but I expect many advisers will shy away from it because it is complex.”
