The seminars, which run throughout March and April, are available to all advisers, not just firms that already purchase Tenet services.

Organisers explained that in the post-RDR environment, the regulator expects advisory firms to adopt a consistent but flexible approach to selecting products for clients.

Having a robust investment process is essential therefore to ensuring firms work efficiently with their investment clients and continue to demonstrate evidence of meeting regulatory standards.

The three-hour seminars aim to give an overview of how to meet the FSA’s requirements when it comes to investment selection, with experts on hand to help advisers decide which solutions work best with their business model, organisers said.

Tenet is also offering to conduct appointments at a firm’s office if the dates and locations are not convenient.

Dates and venues

• 5 March – Buckerall Lodge Hotel, Exeter

• 12 March – Village Hotel Cardiff

• 13 March – Holiday Inn Walsall

• 10 April – Novotel Manchester West

• 11 April – Oulton Hall, Leeds

• 16 April – Copthorne Hotel Newcastle

ADVISER COMMENT

Jonathan Fry, director of Jonathan Fry & Co, said: “The adviser market is flooded with discretionary investment management propositions. We really do feel quite strongly that investment management needs to be something that the client feels the adviser has responsibility for. The danger is that as an adviser you need to be careful that whoever you partner with on the discretionary side is likely to be there over the long term. I would have thought it is a reasonably good idea having these seminars – it depends on your capability, [although] some firms may feel they do not need to attend a seminar on this as it is not that complicated [an] issue.”
