Gary Rawnsley and Nick Cowling will be joint stakeholders in the new venture with chartered accountancy practice Brown Butler, based in Leeds.

The firm now has 750 clients and around £60m under management as a result of the move, which also brings mortgage advice to BBPI for the first time.

Existing clients with Cowling Rawnsley will also receive the benefit of an extra adviser, Elaine Sloman, and more administrative staff when the firm relocates to Leeds in the coming months.

Mr Cowling originally founded his advisory business in Tadcaster in 2004 before Mr Rawnsley joined and became a co-partner in 2007.

Adviser view

John Brear, partner at Leeds-based Brown Butler, said: “Not only was the profile of its client base similar to ours, and the firm provides the range of expertise we were seeking, but the company’s approach of providing top-quality client service – thoroughly professional yet highly personal – chimed perfectly with our own.”
