Aviva hires emerging market currency manager

Aviva Investors has hired Liam Spillane from BNP Paribas subsidiary Overlay Asset Management to run its emerging market currency strategies.

Mr Spillane has joined the emerging market debt team and will work on the company’s local currency debt funds, including the Luxembourg-based Emerging Markets Local Currency Bond fund.

Aviva Investors also runs a dollar-denominated $1.6bn Emerging Markets Bond fund, which has been managed by Aaron Grehan since the start of June after head of emerging market debt Jerry Brewin announced his departure.

Mr Brewin is set to leave the company in August and Mr Grehan, who has been at Aviva Investors since 2000, has taken over management of his funds.

Mr Brewin recently announced he would be joining ING Investment Management as head of emerging market debt. He will be based at The Hague and report to ING IM chief investment officer Hans Stoter.
