Liontrust’s Gary West to retire from fund management

Liontrust’s Gary West has retired from fund management with James Inglis-Jones taking over as sole head of the ‘cashflow solutions’ team.

The company said Mr West was leaving “to pursue opportunities outside the investment industry”.

Chief executive John Ions said the transition of the Liontrust Income fund - which Mr West has co-managed since November 2006 - to a global equity mandate marked “an opportune time” for Mr West to retire.

As well as the Income fund, Mr West has also been co-manager of the Liontrust European Growth fund alongside Mr Inglis-Jones since November 2006.

Samantha Gleave was appointed last year as part of a succession plan, and is now co-manager on the two funds as well as the Liontrust European Absolute Return fund, launched in 2009.

Mr West and Mr Inglis-Jones have worked together for more than 15 years since working for Fleming Investment Management in the 1990s. The pair joined Liontrust in 2006. Ms Gleave also worked with the pair at Fleming.
