Henderson Global Investors has replaced head of fixed income Jim Irvine a little more than a year after his appointment to the role following discussions about leadership of the team.
Mr Irvine joined Henderson in 2005 and was made head of fixed income last year. He left the business last week following an internal discussion about the leadership of the team, a spokesperson said.
Mr Apel joined Henderson as head of interest rates, and is chair of the fixed income investment strategy group (ISG), Henderson’s group of senior bond investors responsible for diversified fixed income portfolios.
He will report to chief investment officer Rob Gambi, who is set to join Henderson at the start of next year.
James McAlevey will become head of the interest rates team and join the ISG, while Mitul Patel will become deputy head of interest rates.
Henderson chief executive Andrew Formica, said this was the end of the changes in senior management, following the appointment of Rob Gambi as chief investment officer supported by Graham Kitchen as head of equities.
“This concludes the changes to our senior executive and board ranks that we have undertaken this year to position us for our next phase of growth as we further internationalise the business,” he said.
