Tom Caddick, head of fund management, global multi-manager for Santander Asset Management UK, said the Atlas Portfolio will be managed by the global multi-manager team led by Mr Caddick and Toby Vaughan.

The actively-managed funds will invest in equities, bonds, properties and alternatives, with the focus on managing volatility.

The funds have an annual management fee of 0.4 per cent with a capped ongoing charge of 0.99 per cent.

The range comprises five multi-asset, multi-manager portfolios with differentiated risk targets that match Distribution Technology’s risk profiles three to seven.

Mr Caddick said: “We believe these portfolios will be a great help for advisers looking for high-quality, great value risk-rated solutions’.’

Jeff Scott, chief executive of Santander Asset Management UK, said: “The team has a long track record of delivering multi-asset solutions to clients across the globe and we are pleased to deliver a range built exclusively for intermediaries as we are committed to success in this new space.’’

Brad Fordham, sales director of Santander for Intermediaries, said the launch was part of the commitment to “deepen our relationship with intermediaries”.

Adviser verdict:

James Robson, independent financial planner for London-based Plutus Wealth Management, said: “It seems to be the flavour of the month, doesn’t it? I don’t have any particular view on it. There’s nothing particularly exciting about multi-asset and multi-manager funds.

“Ultimately the curse of all multi-manager funds is cost. You can have the greatest multi-manager team in the world but generally the cost is what has put us off in the past.

“You’ve got the individual sub-management charges and you’re laying on the multi-manager costs on top of that. It just makes them incredibly expensive.”
