Kames Capital has hired former Baillie Gifford analyst Carolyn Bell as an investment manager for its North American equities team.
Ms Bell will report to Kames’ head of North American equities, Marcus Chandler, who runs the Kames American Equity fund, with responsibilities for “idea generation and portfolio management”.
Ms Bell had been with Baillie Gifford for five years, latterly responsible for researching North American equities, particularly in the technology and energy sectors.
Mr Chandler took over as manager of the American Equity fund at the start of January 2013.
The fund has historically been a poor performer, lying in the bottom quartile for performance in the IMA North America sector for three, five and 10 years, according to FE Analytics.
But performance has picked up slightly under Mr Chandler, as the fund is in the third quartile in the past year and second quartile in the past six months.
