MetLife backs badminton

Grapevine

MetLife has revealed that it was game for slightly more unorthodox investments after announcing plans to sponsor the Badminton World Federation Superseries.

The firm’s managing director, Dominic Grinstead, who described Badminton as “one of the world’s fastest growing sports”, said the partnership reflected its commitment to “long-term growth in the UK for our wealth management” and, conveniently, would be televised in 1.24bn households.

The four-year sponsorship deal will begin at the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships, where players from around the globe will battle it out for $400,000 (£239,000) in prize money.
