The head of UK intermediary at Schroders said 91 per cent of UK investors were looking to maintain or increase the amount they invest and save in 2014, according to a 113-page Global Investment Trends report published by the asset management house.

He added that this could pose a good opportunity for investment advisers.

Mr Stoakley said: “As investor confidence improves, people should seek professional guidance in order to ensure they have a well-balanced mix of investments.”

Schroders’ report surveyed 15,749 investors across 23 countries and revealed that almost two-thirds of UK investors were more confident about investment opportunities this year, compared to less than half last year.
