Jupiter has hired Ross Teverson from Standard Life Investments to lead its team of emerging market fund managers.

Mr Teverson is set to take on the newly created role of head of strategy, global emerging markets at Jupiter when he joins in November 2014 after a 15-year career at Standard Life.

He will head up Jupiter’s emerging market team including China manager Philip Ehrmann, emerging markets manager Kathryn Langridge, India manager Avinash Vazirani, Asia manager Ben Surtees and emerging Europe manager Colin Croft.

Mr Teverson will report to the group’s head of investments, Stephen Pearson, who reports to chief investment officer John Chatfeild-Roberts.

The appointment comes at a time of expansion for Jupiter, which is investing heavily in global distribution as part of a drive to become a major international fund house. The group now sells funds in a number of European states and has recently opened a Hong Kong office.

It has also been creating ‘product specialist’ roles under which investment experts are hired to communicate the views of fund managers directly to clients, enabling Jupiter to interact with investors on a global basis.

Mr Teverson worked in several roles in his time at Standard Life including as director of Standard Life Investments Hong Kong.

He has also been running the group’s $153.5m Emerging Markets Equity Unconstrained Sicav, which delivered a 20.2 per cent return since it launched in October 2012 versus an MSCI EMF index return of 3.5 per cent.

Standard Life Investments earlier today said the fund was being taken over by Matthew Williams, previously deputy manager.

Jupiter’s head of investments Stephen Pearson said: “Developing our global emerging markets capability is strategically important to Jupiter. We already have a strong team of specialist fund managers in this space and Ross’s broad experience and skills will help us build out our strategies on a global basis.”
