The director of Premier’s recently launched socially responsible investment fund said a sense of personal responsibility for supporting renewable energy sources had prompted rising demand for ethical funds.

He said: “Britain’s energy provision is front page news, creating awareness about the need for new sources of energy – that is feeding into demand for funding, and investors can earn good returns by meeting that demand.”

The ethical sector has seen several fund launches recently, with F&C Investments revealing last week it has relaunched its ethical fund range.

Phil Townsend, financial adviser at Cheltenham-based Ethical Investors, said: “It is encouraging to know that fund managers are considering ethical investing more seriously.

“The choice on offer for clients who want ethical portfolios is still quite limited compared with mainstream funds, so additional funds are a good thing.”
