As the debate rages over whether people will be responsible with their pensions, research from Thinkmoney shows that people will make some rather expensive impulse purchases.

Apparently, one in seven of us will occasionally spend £100 on an impulse buy, with one in three splashing £30.

The top choices: that would be clothes, sweets and gadgets. Not surprisingly, there is a gender split between the choices – more men would opt for a travel choice on a whim, whereas one in ten women would buy cosmetics or beauty products.
