Focus on adviser training for pension changes: Lewis

Advisers could be hindered by a lack of professional training relevant to the approaching pension changes, Steve Lewis, head of distribution for LV= retirement solutions has suggested.

Mr Lewis told the inaugral Retirement Review event, held in London’s historic Haberdashers’ Hall, that advisers would have to ensure that they and their staff were up to speed with the pension changes.

He said: “There are more technical things like technical training. There has been a lack of professional development in this area.

“Advisers need to relearn the rules and do testing to make sure advisers know what they are talking about and support staff know what they are talking about.”

He also said that more practical considerations were important, but admitted that nobody could be sure how much advice demand there would be from 6 April, which is a bank holiday.

He said: “It is just about preparing your business for April, and whether you are ready for the onslaught that may or may not happen.

“This means things like the fact it is Easter weekend and asking if you have got staff in.”
