Clare Crowley, a spokesperson for Nationwide said: “At Nationwide, we believe branches have a significant role to play in the future of financial services, but their role will evolve.”

“This is why we are investing in our branch network, introducing new layouts and new technology which will help our customers with more straightforward transactions, whilst freeing up our staff to provide advice and sales support to those customers who want to speak to someone face to face.

“And, alongside this, we continue to invest in digital technology so that those customers who prefer to use such services as online banking and mobile apps still get to enjoy a great customer experience. This is about responding to our customers’ changing needs and allowing them to manage their financial services in a way that suits them, not their provider.”
