Intelliflo has unveiled a social media policy template for advisers to use to help set a framework for compliance.

The launch of the tool by the web-based adviser business management software provider, follows the publication of the FCA’s guidance on financial promotions in social media.

A survey of 117 advisers conducted in 2014 by the company, which supplies specialist online software to financial and mortgage advisers, found that three in five actively use social media but just a quarter had written policies in place that all employees must follow.

Jo Gilbey, Intelliflo’s Marketing Director, said: “Now that the FCA has published its guidance for social media usage, advisers must ensure they have adequate controls in place that mean they will not fall foul of the regulator.

“Putting a policy together from scratch can be a daunting task so we wanted to share a ‘starter for 10’ with advisers to help them get on top of this as quickly as possible.”

Georgina Partridge, founding partner and head of marketing and communications at Plutus Wealth Management LLP, based in London, said: “Any free information on marketing and social media is always useful. We already have a social media policy in place to help us comply with the FCA guidance, but I will be interested to see what they have come up with and how it compares with ours.”
