This is how much the UK’s biggest five banks have spent on customer remediation, conduct failings and fines since 2011.

According to professional services company KPMG, the figure made up more than 60 per cent of the cumulative profits of RBS, Lloyds, HSBC, Barclays and Standard Chartered for the period.
