Investors fear market fall

More than half of investors think the FTSE 100 will fall ahead of the 2015 general election, although this has not been the case prior to most of the previous 11 national polls.

According to research from Halifax Share Dealing, 58 per cent of investors expect a market fall in the run-up to 7 May.

But analysis found that although stock market values in the three months before polling day had dropped by an average of 9 per cent in six of the past 11 elections, prices increased by an average of 10 per cent in the run-up to the other five elections.
