The Nottingham Building Society’s branch in Newark in Nottinghamshire has been centre stage after the University of Nottingham and the University of Edinburgh collaborated on a film project on the life of Ben Jonson.
The famous playwright and poet once rested and dined in the building that now houses the building society’s Nottingham branch.
The 15th Century listed building – formerly stables and a coach house to the adjoining Ye Olde White Hart Inn – will now be the subject of an educational movie being produced for university students.
The storyline centres on an epic walk undertaken by Jonson – a friend of William Shakespeare whose work has had a lasting impact on English poetry and stage comedy – in summer 1618.
His route from London to his ancestral home of Scotland, on foot all the way, took him through the centre of Newark.
