Pru apprenticeships graduate

The latest intake of the Prudential apprenticeship programme have graduated, highlighting the vital role it can provide for young people, Cathy Lewis has said.

Ceremonies were held at the insurers offices in London, Reading and Stirling, which saw 38 graduates receive their advance qualification.

The UK and Europe’s executive director of corporate services said: “Apprenticeship programmes provide a vital pathway for some young people. For us it is about much more than just creating full-time roles for the future in our company. We aim to set up our apprentices with life-skills and a qualification to help them pursue a successful career in their chosen field.”

Harminder Matharu, head of employer and delivery services at the National Apprenticeship Service, said: “For businesses who embrace apprenticeships, there are demonstrable benefits. Independent research findings have shown increases for businesses in employee satisfaction, greater productivity and reduced attrition rates as a result of employing apprentices.”

Last year Prudential announced that it was investing £4.1m to extend the apprenticeship programme until 2018. The insurer said approximately two-thirds of Prudential’s apprentices have been retained by the company since 2013.

Background

The Prudential apprenticeship programme began in 2013 and is at the insurer’s London, Reading and Stirling sites.

The year-long programme consists of training and placements across the business - including including human resources, customer services, risk, IT, operations, sales support, distribution, financial planning and marketing.

The 2015/16 intake of 43 new Prudential apprentices will join the business at the end of August.
