Octopus’s tentacles spread to form tax-efficiency academy

Octopus Investments has launched an adviser academy where financial advisers can discover more about tax-efficient investing.

The Octopus Adviser Academy has been launched on the back of the growing demand for tax-efficient investments.

The online portal provides educational content on tax-efficient investments and planning, including courses on venture capital trusts, enterprise investment schemes and business property reliefs.

Neil Buckland, head of sales at Octopus, said: “These products are growing in popularity as people look for government approved, tax-efficient ways to build and manage their investments.

“In a fast-moving environment where tax legislation is constantly changing, providers have a duty to help advisers better understand the full range of benefits and complexities associated with these products.”

He claimed the academy was aiming to be a go-to, practical tool to support advisers and highlight the role these products could play in financial planning.

Clayton Cumming, a partner at Glasgow-based Advice and Wealth Management Solutions, said: “I have dealt with Octopus in the past and having more understanding is no bad thing, but VCTs and EISs are not realistically designed for your retail clients – they are for high net-worth clients with a really good understanding of investments.”
