CATEGORY WINNER

Premier Multi-Asset Distribution

This fund has been a member of the 100 Club for two years but this is the first time it has won in the Mixed Asset Income category. The judges welcomed the combination of a top-quartile performance with a dynamic asset allocation strategy.

David Hambidge, director of multi-asset funds at Premier Asset Management, has been managing the fund since February 1999 and is joined by Ian Rees, Simon Evans-Cook and David Thornton.

The fund’s aim is to produce growing long-term income plus some capital growth, with income paid quarterly in the form of a dividend per share.

It sits in the Investment Association Mixed Investment 20-60% Shares sector and aims to have between 20 per cent and 60 per cent invested in company shares and at least 30 per cent in fixed income and cash.

Mr Hambidge describes the fund as “multi-asset, multi-manager and multi-structured”.

He recently told Investment Adviser: “Our fund is made up of a diversified range of quality actively managed investments. The debate between the active and passive camps as to which is the better investment approach is ongoing.

“We, however, sit firmly in the former camp and have been particularly happy to be there given the strong outperformance of active funds compared with trackers this year.”

Over five years to October 21, the fund has generated an impressive 49.5 per cent versus the sector average of 23.7 per cent.
