However, there are a host of other bugbears, including premium rate phone lines, ticket booking fees, contracts that are difficult to cancel and ATM charges.

The solution? Always read the small print, says the website’s market research manager Ella Hastings. “That way you shouldn’t be caught-out by any nasty financial surprises.”
