Newcastle hires Aldermore’s Carruthers for adviser push

Newcastle Building Society has appointed Aldermore’s head of sales Steve Carruthers as its new head of mortgage distribution.

He has also previously worked in a variety of roles within the RBS Group and has more than 27 years experience in the financial services sector, the majority of which have been in the intermediary mortgage industry.

Mr Carruthers will be responsible for the newly created mortgage distribution function and the existing business development managers that were appointed by the building society this year.

He stated: “The ambition it has to develop its intermediary proposition was a key aspect for me joining and I look forward to working with the team to support the implementation of this; 2016 is sure to be a busy year for us all.”

Steve Urwin, managing director for sales and marketing at Newcastle, explained the move has been designed to enable a greater focus on developing the intermediary mortgage proposition.

This year Newcastle Intermediaries launched of a full online mortgage application system and entered the buy-to-let market.
